Overview
Luteolin (3',4',5,7-tetrahydroxyflavone, CAS 491-70-3) is a naturally occurring flavone found in many edible and medicinal plants. GreeneryBio supplies high-purity Luteolin extracted from GAP-cultivated botanical sources — primarily Sophora japonica (Japanese pagoda tree), with Chrysanthemum morifolium (chrysanthemum) and Perilla frutescens (perilla) as additional sources — with full traceability and controlled limits for heavy metals, pesticide residues and microbial contaminants.
Material is available in HPLC-verified purity grades:
- Standard: ≥95.0%
- High Purity: ≥98.0%
- Premium: ≥99.5%
Batches are tested against USP/EP analytical methods, with residual solvents controlled to ICH Q3C limits.
Raw Material & Extraction
We employ a green, multi-stage purification process:
- Pretreatment — low-temperature drying and micronization of botanical material to improve extraction efficiency.
- Extraction — ultrasound-assisted ethanol extraction or supercritical CO₂ extraction.
- Purification — solvent defatting, AB-8 macroporous-resin adsorption, preparative HPLC on a C18 reverse-phase column, and recrystallization in a methanol–water system.
- Final processing — vacuum drying and sterile packaging for a stable crystalline product.
This process keeps structural analogs (apigenin, kaempferol) below 0.5% in the High Purity grade, reducing cross-reactivity in HPLC assays.
Researched Activities
Luteolin is one of the most extensively studied dietary flavones. The following are activities reported in published laboratory and animal research — provided for formulation context, not as product claims:
- Antioxidant activity — radical-scavenging in DPPH/ABTS assays; studied for modulation of the Nrf2/ARE/HO-1 pathway in cell models.
- NF-κB / MAPK / STAT3 signaling — studied for pathway modulation in cell and animal models.
- Other research interest — investigated in cellular and animal models relating to neuronal, vascular and metabolic activity.
Application Areas
Luteolin is used as an active or reference ingredient in:
- Dietary supplements — capsules and tablets, often combined with other flavonoids or omega-3.
- Cosmetics & personal care — antioxidant ingredient in topical formulations.
- Functional foods & beverages — antioxidant fortification.
- Research & analytical — reference material for flavone analysis and R&D.
