Overview
Luteolin (3',4',5,7-tetrahydroxyflavone, CAS 491-70-3) is a naturally occurring flavone found in many edible and medicinal plants. GreeneryBio supplies pharmaceutical-grade Luteolin extracted from GAP-certified botanical sources — primarily Chrysanthemum morifolium (chrysanthemum), Perilla frutescens (perilla), and Sophora japonica (Japanese pagoda) — with full traceability and strict freedom from heavy metals, pesticide residues, and microbial contaminants.
Our material is available in three HPLC-verified purity grades:
- Standard: ≥95.0%
- High Purity: ≥98.0%
- Premium: ≥99.5% (suitable for pharmaceutical and clinical research)
All batches comply with USP/EP analytical methods and ICH Q3C solvent-residue limits.
Raw Material & Extraction
We employ a green, multi-stage purification technology:
- Pretreatment — low-temperature drying and micronization of botanical material to maximize extraction efficiency.
- Extraction — ultrasound-assisted ethanol extraction (300 W, 40 min) or supercritical CO₂ extraction (35 MPa, 45 °C).
- Purification — solvent defatting, AB-8 macroporous-resin adsorption, preparative HPLC on C18 reverse-phase column, and recrystallization in a methanol-water system.
- Final processing — vacuum drying and sterile packaging yield a stable crystalline product.
This process minimizes structural analogs (apigenin, kaempferol) below 0.5% in our High Purity grade, eliminating a common cross-reactivity headache in HPLC assays.
Health Benefits & Mechanisms
Potent anti-inflammatory activity
- Inhibits NF-κB, MAPK (JNK/p38), and STAT3 pathways
- Reduces TNF-α, IL-6, and NO production in activated macrophages
- Suppresses mast cell degranulation and histamine release, useful in anti-allergy formulations
Antioxidant defense
- Scavenges DPPH, ABTS, and hydroxyl radicals (DPPH IC₅₀ ≈ 15.3 μM)
- Activates the Nrf2 / ARE / HO-1 pathway, upregulating endogenous antioxidant enzymes
- Protects cells from oxidative DNA damage
Neuroprotection
- Mitigates β-amyloid aggregation and tau hyperphosphorylation in cognitive-health models
Cardiovascular support
- Improves lipid metabolism via the retinoic-acid–PPAR axis
- Inhibits vascular inflammation and oxidative stress
- Reduces foam-cell formation, contributing to anti-atherosclerotic activity
Additional benefits
- Uric acid lowering through xanthine oxidase inhibition
- Skin — soothes sensitive skin, reduces redness, supports skin wellness formulations
